Gleim Encouraged by Parts of Gov. Wolf’s Budget Address
2/5/2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Barb Gleim (R-Cumberland) said she is encouraged by what she heard in Gov. Tom Wolf’s fifth budget address to the General Assembly. With this budget address, the governor has formally started the process that will lead to the state’s 2019-20 spending plan.

Gleim issued the following statement:

“As a freshman member of the House who hails from a farming community, I was very pleased to hear the governor mention agriculture in a budget address. It is important that the vision for the state properly recognize agriculture as Pennsylvania’s No. 1 economic driver.

“I was also encouraged to hear the governor talk about workforce development. Improving the business climate to create good-paying jobs and training workers to fill those positions will increase tax receipts that will lift the entire Commonwealth, not just some areas of it.

“As a member of the Education Committee, I am committed to supporting our students. However, when we allocate new education funds, I will insist that any new money must get to the students, not special interest lobbying efforts.

Again, education is another area in which the General Assembly has taken the lead. In the first three years of the Wolf Administration, Republicans added $1.57 billion in PreK-12 education. Since the people elected Republicans to the majority in 2011, we have added $3.4 billion to education.

“I am excited to get to work in my new committee assignments and as we work with the Senate and the administration to develop a 2019-20 spending plan that recognizes the needs of all the residents of our diverse state.”
