Gleim Announces $1 Million For Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet

HARRISBURG – Rep. Barb Gleim (R-Cumberland) today announced that the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) has awarded a $1 million grant to the Cumberland County Industrial Development Authority (CCIDA) to assist with significant renovations to the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet’s building at 5 North Orange St. in Carlisle Borough.

“I am very pleased RACP sees the value in this redevelopment effort, which will include a new 5,500 square-foot addition to the existing building and 24,345 square feet of renovations,” Gleim said. “The ever-growing student body requires greater security and emergency preparedness, which is a key focus of these renovations. New bathrooms will be installed and studio space will also be reconfigured to accommodate growth and provide necessary performance space for the school and surrounding community. I picked up this effort that was started by my predecessor, former Rep. Steve Bloom and Sen. Mike Regan (R-York/Cumberland) was instrumental in helping get this over the finish line.”

In 1955, Carlisle native Marcia Dale Weary opened the Marcia Dale School of Dance – which is now Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet – after studying at the School of Ballet Repertory in New York City.

“The youth ballet is an anchor of culture in the Carlisle community, serves as the Resident Ballet Company for Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg and has an economic impact of over $14 million a year on the Carlisle economy,” Gleim said.
