Gleim Announces Oct. 11 Veterans Breakfast

CARLISLE –Rep. Barb Gleim (R-Cumberland) today announced the speaker for her free Veterans Breakfast for those living in the 199th District. The event will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, 950 Soldiers Drive, Carlisle.

“Being the home of the U.S. Army War College, the 199th District is intrinsically connected with our active service members and many valiant men and women who have proudly served our country as a member of the armed forces,” Gleim said. “This breakfast is just a small way to say thanks and recognize them for their service.”

Congressman Scott Perry (Brigadier General, USA, Ret.) will be the keynote speaker. Perry graduated from Cumberland-Perry Vo-Tech School and put himself through college while working full time.

He began his military career in 1980 and eventually transferred to Army Aviation, where he earned qualifications in almost every rotary-wing aircraft in the Army inventory and the Instructor Pilot rating. As a lieutenant colonel, Perry commanded the 2-104th General Support Aviation Battalion, which deployed to Iraq from 2009 -10, and during which he flew 44 combat missions. After serving in his final military position as assistant adjutant general, joint forces headquarters, Pennsylvania National Guard, Perry retired in March, 2019, after nearly 40 years in uniform. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College and earned a master’s degree in Strategic Studies.

Seating is limited, so veterans interested in attending are asked to RSVP by calling Gleim’s district office at 717-249-1990. Veterans and their immediate family members may attend the breakfast for free.

The 199th District includes the boroughs of Carlisle, Newville; and the townships of Dickinson, Lower Frankford, Lower Mifflin, Middlesex, Silver Spring, Upper Frankford, Lower Frankford and West Pennsboro.
