Gleim Announces $193,700 Rail Trail Grant
November 12, 2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Barb Gleim (R-Carlisle) announced today the Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council Inc. has been awarded a $193,700 grant for the development of the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail in West Pennsboro Township.
“I am very pleased the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources saw the value of this grant request so that our community can continue to enjoy the very popular Cumberland Valley Rail Trail,” Gleim said. “While the ultimate goal is for the trail to connect Carlisle and Shippensburg, the need for upkeep and improvements on the existing path is necessary.”
The funds, which were awarded by the DCNR’s Recreation and Conservation Grant Program, will help with the rehabilitation of approximately 5.6 miles of trail from the Shippensburg Township line to the North Newton Township line, intersection improvements, handicap access, landscaping, signs and other related site improvements.
