In 45 Days, Early Voting Begins?
Today marks 45 days until early voting is scheduled to begin and my office is receiving almost daily inquiries about early voting.
While we do not know if the ballots will be ready on time yet, please read about how you can vote early by clicking here so that you understand the process.
Even if you plan on voting in person, please request a mail in ballot so that you have it in case there is an unforeseen reason you will not be able to get to the polls on Tuesday, November 5th.
Step 1
Request a mail-in ballot.
There are 3 ways to request a mail in ballot:
1. Online here
2. By mail. Request a form to be mailed to you here and mail it back filled out , fill it out and return it by mail.
3. Go in person to the Cumberland County Elections, 1601 Ritner Hwy Suite 201, Carlisle, PA 17013. You can fill out a mail-in ballot application on the spot, vote it and turn it in all in the same trip.
Step 2
Vote the Mail-in or Absentee Ballot
Once you receive your official ballot in the mail (sometime after Sept. 16), fill it out and return your voted ballot by mail or in person at the election’s office.
Step 3
Track your returned ballot.
If you mail it back, you can then fill out this online form here to track your voted ballot.
If you decide to vote in person and did not return your mail-in or absentee ballot, you have two options:
1. Bring your ballot and the pre-addressed outer return envelope to your polling place to be voided. After you surrender your ballot and envelope and sign a declaration, you can then vote a regular ballot.
2. If you don’t surrender your ballot and return the envelope, you can only vote by provisional ballot at your polling place. Your county board of elections will then verify that you did not vote by mail before counting your provisional ballot.

Tax Credits Encourage Employers to Invest in Education Savings Accounts
Working to make higher education more affordable, the General Assembly recently adopted a new law creating a tax credit for employers that invest in PA 529 College and Career Savings Program accounts held by their employees.
The law allows a 25% tax credit on employer contributions of up to $500 per participating employee per year. This initiative encourages employers to support their employees’ educational savings, facilitating financial planning for future educational expenses.
The credit also would apply to employer contributions to PA ABLE accounts, which help people with disabilities plan for their future expenses without risking benefit eligibility.
More information about the state’s 529 savings programs is available at patreasury.gov.

PHEAA Announces Financial Aid Seminars
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) is hosting free webinars in August aimed at helping students and families understand financial aid and loan repayment.
The webinar titled “Deep Dive into Covering the Gap” will be offered at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22. This one-hour session aims to help students and their families understand their bill and financial aid package, and determine what, if any, borrowing is needed to cover the difference between aid and actual cost.
The webinar titled “Financial Aid Timeline – Know What to Do When” will be offered at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, and again at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 20. This one-hour presentation will provide the starting points and web resources for effective research before, during and after your student makes post-secondary education decisions.
For a full schedule, and to register your participation, visit pheaa.org/virtual.
