70 Days to Election Day
Have you applied for your mail in ballot yet? Yesterday, marked 70 days until Election Day and that means only 20 days until early voting is scheduled to begin as we start early voting 50 days prior to Election Day.
While we do not know if the ballots will be ready on time yet, please read about how you can vote early by clicking here so that you understand the process.
Even if you plan on voting in person, please request a mail in ballot so that you have it in case there is an unforeseen reason you will not be able to get to the polls on Tuesday, November 5.
There are 3 ways to request a mail in ballot:
1. Online here
2. By mail. Request a form to be mailed to you here and mail it back filled out, fill it out and return it by mail.
3. Go in person to the Cumberland County Elections, 1601 Ritner Hwy Suite 201, Carlisle, PA 17013. You can fill out a mail-in ballot application on the spot, vote it and turn it in all in the same trip.
Also, a friendly reminder that it is illegal for non-U.S. citizens to vote:

While Summer Winds Down, Bugs are Still Buggin’
Summer is winding down, but ticks and mosquitoes are as active as ever, so it’s important to continue taking steps to protect yourself outdoors.
Pennsylvania typically ranks in the top 10 in the country for Lyme disease cases per 100,000 residents. Most cases can be treated successfully with a short course of antibiotics. However, if the infection is left untreated, it can spread to joints, heart and nervous system.
The state Department of Health offers an online dashboard to show where ticks are prevalent and help people prepare to take appropriate precautions while enjoying outdoor activities.
Tips include covering exposed skin; wearing light colors to help detect ticks; using insect repellent that is EPA-approved for tick prevention; and spraying permethrin on shoes, clothes and gear. After being outside, check yourself, your kids, and your pets thoroughly for ticks and remove any attached. Shower to help remove any ticks you may have missed. Throw your clothes in the dryer using high heat to help kill any remaining ticks.
Residents should also take steps to prevent mosquito bites by using insect repellent with DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus, and by wearing long sleeves and pants, especially during peak mosquito activity times, like dusk and dawn.

Library Mini-Grants Awarded
Congratulations to the Cumberland County Library System (CCLS) on receiving a nearly $4,400 Professional Development Mini-Grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Office of Commonwealth Libraries. CCLS is one of 14 libraries statewide to receive a grant, which will enable librarians and staff to develop new skills and stay up to date on current trends.
This specific grant must be used to support any activity that would apply to a group of learners (e.g., hiring speakers for virtual or in-person staff-trainings, online courses for a group), host district or region-wide training or to provide training for trustees or volunteers.
