Budget Impasse Update
Here is the latest news from Rep. Jim Struzzi, Republican chairman of the House Appropriations Committee:

We are not slated to return to session until the end of this month. As stated above, most essential payments are happening as leadership grapples with what the state can afford. The Senate did send back a flat-funded budget (no loss of funding for any line item…just no increases) with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) funded for two years.

Democrat leadership rejected that proposal. A flat-funded budget is still $2 billion more than incoming revenue. Since that happened last cycle with a flat-funded budget, we would be $4 billion in the hole because our revenues have stayed the same.

Annual Farmers Breakfast Friday Sept. 19

I hope you will join us for our annual Farmers Breakfast to hear the latest news in our district, as well as a state of agriculture presentation from Penn State Extension. The event will take place from 9-11 a.m. at the West Pennsboro Fire Hall.

Shippensburg Corn Festival

Lexi Peterson from my district office staff attended the Shippensburg Corn Festival on my behalf this past Saturday. The event drew a great crowd and there was a spirit of fall in the air on a beautiful day. Thanks to everyone who participated and supported such a wonderful event.

Be Prepared!

September is National Preparedness Month, and this year’s theme, “Preparedness Starts at Home,” focuses on getting back to the essentials.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), there are four key actions you can take to prepare for any disaster:
Know your risk: Know what could happen where you and your family live. Explore various types of disasters and emergencies on Ready.gov.
Make a family emergency plan: Follow four easy steps and create a free Family Emergency Plan quickly and easily with FEMA’s fillable form.
Build an emergency supply kit: Having enough food, water and medicine can help you stay safe and comfortable until help arrives. Find a list to help build your emergency supplies kit here.
Get involved in your community by taking action to prepare for emergencies: Emergencies can happen fast, and emergency responders aren’t always nearby. Consider taking first aid and CPR courses to help take care of your family, friends and neighbors.
