We Will Never Forget!
Today marks the 25th anniversary of one of the worst days in our nation’s history. On Sept. 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 men and women were killed in devastating terrorist attacks in New York; Washington, D.C.; and Pennsylvania, including more than 400 first responders.
While most of us remember both the tragedy and bravery of that day, there are now an estimated 100 million Americans who are too young to remember 9/11. It is our duty to share our perspectives of that day – from fear and sadness to resilience and patriotism – to ensure the lives lost and lessons of that time in our history are never forgotten.
In addition to the annual remembrance events, special programming is planned at Ground Zero and Pennsylvania’s own Flight 93 Memorial. On Sept. 12, officials will break ground for construction of a Visitor Education Center adjacent to the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial in Washington, D.C.
May God bless the souls lost and the loved ones they left behind on this tragic day and always.

Cumberland County Fire and EMS Memorial Service
Yesterday, my staff had the honor of attending the Cumberland County Fire and EMS Memorial Service as our community gathered to remember the brave first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
This year’s ceremony was especially meaningful as we marked the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. We remember the lives lost that day, including the courageous first responders who ran toward danger to save others.
May we never forget their sacrifice, and continue to support the firefighters, EMS professionals, and emergency responders who serve our communities every day.

Historic Session Held at Philadelphia’s Congress Hall
In recognition of our Commonwealth’s foundational role in the development of our nation, I joined my fellow legislators in an historic session at Philadelphia’s Congress Hall earlier this week/last week.
It was an honor to gather at what was once the meeting place of the United States Congress, from 1790-1800.

PennDOT Innovations Challenge
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced yesterday that high school students from around the state are invited to participate in this year’s PennDOT Innovations Challenge, which encourages students to use their problem-solving, creative and strategic-thinking abilities to solve real-world transportation challenges in a competition among their peers. The Innovations Challenge is open to all Pennsylvania students in grades 9-12.

Be Prepared!
September is National Preparedness Month, and this year’s theme, “Americans Stand Ready,” highlights preparedness as a civic responsibility and patriotic duty.
In the face of disasters like tornadoes, wildfires and hurricanes, Americans can take simple, practical steps to keep themselves and their families safe. By proactively preparing, Americans make the nation stronger and more resilient.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Ready Campaign offers these simple, affordable steps to help you stand ready:
• Be in the know. Make sure you know where to get information when you need it most. Sign up for your community’s warning system and download the FEMA App to get emergency safety alerts and resources.
• Make a plan to keep you and your family, including pets, safe and prepared. The plan should include emergency contact information, emergency meeting places and medical information.
• Build a kit with the essential items your family needs to stay safe and comfortable if something happens.
• Be there for your community. From volunteering in your community to learning skills like first aid and CPR, you can take steps to prepare for disasters and keep your family safe and make your neighborhood and community more resilient.

Bureaucratic Red Tape
Our office is currently assisting an elderly constituent who has encountered difficulties with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue while seeking her rent rebate. Because of a missed line on her original application, what should have been a straightforward process has become a frustrating and ongoing effort to resolve the issue.
Situations like this are an important reminder that navigating state government can sometimes be unnecessarily complicated. If you need assistance applying for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program or are experiencing problems with a state agency, my office is here to help. We will work with you to navigate the process, cut through the bureaucratic red tape, and help you get the answers you deserve.

PFBC Now Accepting Applications for Boating Facility Grant Program
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is opening the next round of Boating Facility Grants to meet growing demand for public access and expand safe, accessible boating opportunities. The application can be found here.
The Boating Facility Grant Program supports the planning, acquisition, development, expansion, and rehabilitation of public boating facilities. Eligible applicants include townships, boroughs, counties, municipalities and 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations such as land trusts, conservancies and watershed groups.

Calling Those Who Support the Farming Community
You are invited to attend our annual Farmers Breakfast on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 9-11 a.m. at the West Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Company.
The breakfast will provide an opportunity for area farmers to connect with one another, hear updates on issues affecting Pennsylvania agriculture, and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the local farming community.

Community Senior Expo
State Rep. Sheryl Delozier and I hope you’ll consider attending our Fall Fair Senior Expo on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carlisle Expo Center, 100 K St., Carlisle. It will be a fun and informative day for senior citizens, their families and caregivers.
This event will bring together local and state agencies, organizations and service providers in one convenient location.
