More than $1 Million Secured in Grant Funding to Benefit Our Communities
I am pleased to announce that more than $1 million in Local Share Account (LSA) funding has been awarded to two important projects in our community.
West Pennsboro Township Volunteer Fire Company will receive more than $427,000 for the purchase of a new mini pumper fire truck. This new equipment will help ensure our local first responders have the resources they need to protect residents and respond to emergencies.
New Life Community Church will receive $600,000 for the installation of a new HVAC system. The improvement will allow the facility to better accommodate and serve residents and community groups.
I was pleased to support both funding requests and look forward to seeing the positive impact these investments will have throughout our community.

Ag Community Comes Together for Farmers Breakfast
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday for my Annual Farmers Breakfast! It was a great opportunity to bring members of our agricultural community together, share updates and discuss the issues impacting Pennsylvania farmers.
A special thank you to our guest speakers: Chris Davis, acting deputy secretary for Plant Industry and Consumer Protection with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture; and Becca Weir, assistant professor of Agricultural Economics at the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences. We appreciate them for sharing their time, expertise and valuable insights.
I would also like to thank the Big Spring and Shippensburg FFA students who joined us, and the Big Spring FFA Chapter Recorder Naomi Wert for providing the invocation. We were grateful to have these young agricultural leaders take part in the morning and appreciate their continued involvement in the future of farming.
I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this event a success and to our farmers for all they do for our community and Pennsylvania agriculture!

Celebrating Safe Harbour’s 40th Anniversary
Wednesday evening, I had the honor of presenting Safe Harbour with a House citation in recognition of the organization’s 40th anniversary.
Since its founding, Safe Harbour has provided shelter, affordable housing and supportive services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability in Cumberland County.
Congratulations to Safe Harbour on four decades of service and thank you for your continued commitment to helping those in the community in need of support.

Discussion on the Intellectual Disabilities and Autism System
I attended The Arc of Cumberland and Perry Counties (CPARC) 2026 Legislative Roundtable on Thursday to discuss issues affecting Pennsylvanians with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The conversation focused on challenges facing the Direct Support Professional workforce, current regulations affecting community participation, accountability within DHS and ODP and opportunities to strengthen workforce development through community colleges and other programs.
I’d like to thank CPARC staff, advocates and participants for sharing their experiences and ideas, and look forward to continuing discussions on the state level, including the civil rights violations that your community experiences through the state regulations currently in place. We must find ways to reduce barriers and support individuals with disabilities and the professionals who serve them.

LKQ Corporation Facility Tour
I recently attended a tour of an LKQ Corporation facility with several of my colleagues. LKQ specializes in recycled and re-manufactured auto parts and employs more than 650 workers in Pennsylvania.
Senate Bill 1049 was at the forefront of discussions during the visit. This legislation would streamline the title-transfer process for certain total-loss vehicles being transferred from insurers to recyclers. By reducing unnecessary administrative steps, the proposal could help recyclers process vehicles more efficiently and make quality recycled parts available sooner.
Pennsylvania drivers continue to face high vehicle repair and insurance costs. While many factors affect insurance premiums, increasing access to affordable recycled parts and reducing delays in the repair supply chain could help ease some of those cost pressures.

South Middleton Township’s New Community Center
On Thursday, I joined Sen. Greg Rothman, Rep. Thomas Kutz and officials from Cumberland County and South Middleton Township at the groundbreaking of the first phase of the township’s new community center.
The project will transform the former Fair Oaks School property into a community and recreation hub for area residents. The facility will include recreational and community programming space and provide expanded opportunities for residents of all ages.
I was glad to celebrate this important milestone with our local partners and look forward to seeing the project continue to take shape.

PA March for Life Set for Sept. 21
I’ll be joining and speaking to pro-life advocates from across the Commonwealth this Monday Sept. 21, at the state Capitol in Harrisburg for the Pennsylvania March for Life. The day’s events kick off at 10 a.m. with a pre-rally praise and worship service, followed by the rally at 11 a.m. and the march at noon.

Upcoming Overnight Paving Operations Will Close, Detour Ramps on I-81 Pavement Project Near Carlisle
Overnight I-81 ramp closures and detours are scheduled for this Sunday, Sept. 20, through the following Thursday, Sept. 24, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day to complete patching and paving near Carlisle.
The work limits for this project are from Mile Marker 47 just north of the Hanover Street (Route 34) exit in South Middleton Township to Mile Marker 52 just north of the Route 11 exit in Middlesex Township.
The contractor will be working
• Sunday, Sept. 20: Southbound I-81 ramp to northbound and southbound Route 11 at Exit 52 (Ramp D) will be closed for paving. An overnight detour will be implemented using southbound I-81 to Exit 49 for Route 641 East to northbound I-81 to northbound and southbound Route 11.
• Monday, Sept. 21:
o Northbound Route 11 ramp to southbound I-81 at Exit 52 (Ramp A) will be closed for paving. An overnight detour will be implemented using northbound I-81 to Route 114 West to southbound I-81.
o Southbound Route 11 ramp to southbound I-81 at Exit 52 (Ramp E) will be closed for paving. An overnight detour will be implemented using southbound Route 11 to Route 34 South to southbound I-81.
• Tuesday, Sept. 22: Southbound I-81 ramp to PA 641 at Exit 49 (Ramp U) will be closed for paving. An overnight detour will be implemented using southbound I-81 to southbound Route 34 (Hanover Street) to northbound I-81 to northbound Route 74 (York Road) to eastbound Route 641.
• Wednesday, Sept. 23: Route 74 (York Road) ramp to southbound I-81 at Exit 48 (Ramp N) will be closed for paving. An overnight detour will be implemented using northbound Route 74 to westbound Route 641 (High Street) to southbound Route 34 (Hanover Street) to southbound I-81.
• Thursday, Sept. 24: Northbound I-81 ramp to Route 74 (York Road) at Exit 48 (Ramp O) will be closed for paving. An overnight detour will be implemented using northbound I-81 to Route 11 South to southbound I-81 to Route 641 West to southbound Route 74.

Grants for Dairy Producers Now Open
The Center for Dairy Excellence is now accepting applications for the Dairy Decisions Consultants (DDC) Grant Program and the Transition/Transformation Team Grant Program for the 2026-27 program year.
Dairy producers can utilize the grants to work one-on-one with professional consultants in one of seven strategic areas of business or form an advisory team to help create a transition plan or major business transformation plan.
Leveraging funds provided through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and PA Dairymen’s Association, the grant program is now open with limited grants available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Farmers must complete an application and submit the required $100 application fee to participate in each program. Visit centerfordairyexcellence.org/grants to learn more and apply online.

Farmers, First Responders: Liquid Fuels Tax Applications Due Sept. 30
Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity is reminding farmers and first responders to submit their Liquid Fuels Tax applications by Sept. 30 for eligible purchases of unleaded gasoline and on-road, clear diesel used for machinery and vehicle operations.
Treasury’s Board of Finance and Revenue (BF&R) sent applications to eligible organizations – including farming operations, volunteer fire companies, ambulance providers and rescue squads incorporated as nonprofits.
Electronic applications and supporting documents, which are preferred, must be received by Sept. 30, and mailed applications and documents must be postmarked by that date.
To request a form or to file electronically, claimants can send completed forms and required documents to BFRLiquidFuels@patreasury.gov. Forms can also be uploaded directly on Treasury’s website, patreasury.gov/bfr. Treasury’s BF&R can also be reached by calling 717-787-6534.

Community Senior Expo
State Rep. Sheryl Delozier and I hope you’ll consider attending our Fall Fair Senior Expo on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carlisle Expo Center, 100 K St., Carlisle. It will be a fun and informative day for senior citizens, their families and caregivers.
